Blog 1 - Pre-Project

I started dancing when I was 7. While my mom signed me up for basically every sport imaginable when I was younger, dance was the only one that really stuck with me. Even after 10 years, I'm still at the studio I started dancing at, and I want to continue dancing even after high school. While I've always been super active as a dancer at the studio, there's a lot going on behind the scenes that I don't know about. I hope through this project I can learn more about what it takes to run the studio, and help my teacher run our studio smoother. I will be working at my studio, Dance Studio M, every day from 4-9 so I know what to expect if I start working at a dance studio in the future. I will be preparing everything for our upcoming recitals, teaching and leading younger classes, keeping the studio clean, and helping the teachers with graphic design and marketing. It won't be easy work, but it will be meaningful work.

Essentially what I will be doing is being a student worker, since I'm also a student at the studio. I've actually been a student worker once, sometime before Covid-19 hit, so I think I know the basics of what I will be doing in terms of cleaning and teaching classes. However, this time around some things are different. For one, I will be working alongside two of my friends, one of which is also a Hawken student, and two, I will be taking on more projects and working closer with the teachers. I also think I will be given more work because I'm almost an adult now and am more trustworthy and responsible than I was back then. I hope I can learn and grow through this project while also lending a helping hand to the place I've called my second home for so long.
